Solomon Dalung |
House of Representatives Committee on Sports recently met with the
controversial Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung over how the
financial disbursements to his ministry were expended in the last one
year.
Dalung appeared to have spent funds above the budget provisions for the
year 2016. As he took questions from the members of the House of
Representatives Committee on sports, Dalung made some heart-rending
spoken English errors that have distracted listeners from his
explanations.
Read excerpts from his interview:
"Before we left for Rio, we wrote and requested for and requested for
the release of money appropriated for in the budget and it has not been
released for the federation"
He then commented on funding for the Rio Brazil 2016 where he made
unspeakable grammatical blunders that have caught the attention of
social media users who have been on the case of the Plateau politician
for a while.
"450 million (naira) was appropriated and we spent far far far beyond
that. Monies that were given to the federation couldn't have been monies
meant for the Olympics.
When questioned about the financial anomaly of spending above the
budgeted funds as raised by a House of Reps Committee member, Danburam
Nuhu he said:
"The funds SPENDED were properly SPENDED because we got them from
intervention funds," he said.
It would be recalled that Mr. Dalung has been heavily blamed for the
delay in the payment of the financial entitlements of the victorious
Super Falcons who took to the premises of the National Assembly to
protest the ill-treatment by the Nigerian government.
